The Scotch Whisky Region of The Lowlands
The Lowlands is the first (or last depending on which way you're heading) whisky region of Scotland.
It encompasses the area south of the imaginary line between Dundee on the Firth of Tay and Greenock on the River Clyde.
Originally divided up due to tax laws, the regions have become more indicative of the area and terrain, than their financial potential.
The whisky from this region is known for being light and smooth with a grassy and floral taste earning itself the nickname 'Ladies Malt.'
Traditionally, the whisky was triple distilled which raises the ABV
but leaves the whisky with a lighter flavour, although only a handful of
distilleries make this essential to their process now.
